Ronan Curtis scored and was sent off as AFC Wimbledon had to settle for a draw against Harrogate Town at Plough Lane.

The result did little to help either team's League Two play-off charge.

Matty Daly's cool opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Curtis, who was sent off for a reckless challenge only three minutes later.

The Dons lie one point outside the play-offs, while their visitors are left with a five-point deficit to make up.

Within eight minutes the Sulphurites had the lead, with George Thomson teeing up Daly after nice work down the left by Jeremy Sivi.

A toothless first period was quickly improved upon by Wimbledon, Curtis and James Ball both missing the target from close-range headers early in the second half.

Soon after, another lofted ball into the box got them level. Harrogate failed to deal with a Jake Reeves free-kick and Curtis happily fired the loose ball home before being sent off for a late tackle on Levi Sutton just after the hour-mark.

Harrogate failed to capitalise on the man advantage with the Dons looking most threatening from set-pieces, though neither side was able to grab a winner.

    As a a Harrogate Town fan the sending off looked very harsh at first look;at worst a yellow card.

    Momentum was with the Dons when Curtis was sent off. Nobody knows why. Players did not appeal and the game seemed to be moving on. Another game spoilt by a poor referee. That aside neither of these teams could possibly hope to survive in league 1 so the fact that both are likely to stay outside the playoffs 'till seasons end is a good thing

    It wasn't a reckless challenge, it was barely even a yellow. Yet again a referee at this level manages to destroy a game that was bubbling up nicely after the equaliser. But of course because it didn't happen in the Premier League, it will get no coverage and these truly inept officials will continue to get work in the lower leagues.

    Worst ref for a long while. The red card will get rescinded like all ours seem to.
    Sadly the damage has been done and a good game spoiled.

      Poor display for the officiating team. It wasn’t just that a couple of decisions were contentious; this referee was as crooked as they come. Literally turning away from decisions that were clearly in AFCs favour, and couldn’t blow the whistle quickly enough for Harrogate. The refereeing body need to review this match official and the decisions made.

    It was maybe a yellow but definitely not a red. We probably would've gone on to win the game but for the sending off. In saying that we didn't show up in the first half. Harrogate were terrible.

    went to reverse fixture and got a selfie with JJ. Harrogate are a well managed side who consistently defy their decriers. Their manager is excellent

      Thank you. Weaver has had some dodgy moments but getting Town in to L2, keeping us there for 3 seasons and now improving our league position this season is no mean feat on our budget and capacity.

    I thought the ref was going to wag his finger at Curtis to say do it again and you'll get a booking. A yellow card in the extreme then he produced a red and I thought he's pulled the wrong card out. Five minutes after that Harrogate player did a similar challenge and the ref didn't bat an eyelid.

    What a poor refereeing decision that effectively killed off the game. We might have gone on to win with 11 on the pitch but the playoffs were already out of reach even with a win. Awfully poor decision by Ref Ben Speedie which I hope the Dons will appeal
