Grimsby Town keen on former Bradford City and Sheffield United striker

Grimsby Town are keen on signing AFC Wimbledon striker James Hanson.

The 31-year-old wants to move back up north this summer and is wanted by the Mariners, according to BBC Humberside Sport journalist Matt Dean on Twitter.

Hanson, who is 6ft 4inc, scored five goals for Wimbledon last season in League One but has been linked with a move away over recent weeks.

The Bradford-born forward is vastly experienced in the Football League and has racked up just under 500 appearances to date.

Hanson started his career at with spells in the academies at Huddersfield Town and Bradford City before dropping into non-league with Eccleshill United and Guisely.

He was snapped up by Bradford in July 2009 and went onto play 335 times for the Bantams, scoring 91 goals. Hanson helped the Yorkshire side win the League Two Play-Offs in 2013 and played a key role in their run to the League Cup final in the same year.

Sheffield United swooped to sign him in January 2017 and he was part of the Blades squad who won the League One title under Chris Wilder. However, he fell down the pecking order at Bramall Lane and was loaned to Bury before joining Wimbledon.

A move back up north to Grimsby is now on the cards for the target man. Michael Jolley’s side snapped up striker Matt Green earlier this week and look to further boost their attack by landing Hanson.
