West Ham United have signed goalkeeper David Martin from Millwall on a free transfer, as announced by their official club website.
The Romford-born ‘keeper played 11 times for Neil Harris’ side this past season and helped them stay in the Championship.
Martin has played over 400 games in his career and represented England at youth levels when he was younger.
He started his career at Wimbledon after spells in the academies at Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham. He then joined MK Dons 2004 but was snapped up by Liverpool two years later.
Martin never made a senior appearance for the Reds but enjoyed loan spells away from Anfield with the likes of Accrington Stanley, Leicester City, Tranmere Rovers, Leeds United and Derby County.
He left Liverpool in 2010 to re-join MK Dons and stayed with them for seven years, playing 339 games and helping them gain promotion to the Championship in 2015.
Martin signed for Millwall on a free transfer in 2017 and has mainly been used as a back-up at the Den. His move to their rivals West Ham has certainly raised some eyebrows.
Here is how the Lions’ fans have reacted on Twitter to the news today-
Boyhood club or not, money talks. Would’ve been first choice for us but will rot in the reserves for them lot now. Martin can do one. Hope this is all apart of Harris’ masterplan 😩 #Millwall

Harris said he doesn’t want anyone who doesn’t want to play for Millwall & Martin clearly fits in that category. He was never going to be a long term solution to the keeper position but it really does put us in a bad situation. The club MUST have deals in place surely? #Millwall

Dave Martin must have one hell of an agent. Securing a 2 year deal for a 33 year old in the premier league who has played only 11 times in the last 2 seasons (and probably won’t play many more than that in the next 2!) #Millwall

David Martin has done Millwall proper there.

I think it’s safe to say for the sake of his own humanity, David Martin should stay right away from Bermondsey
