The veteran commentator John Motson has been warned by talkSPORT radio bosses after describing the Millwall striker Tom Elliott as "big, black and brave"

The 73-year-old sparked angry reactions from listeners after using the phrase during coverage of Millwall's FA Cup fifth round victory over AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Motson, who covered 10 World Cup finals, 10 European Championships and more than 200 England internationals during his time at the BBC, was reportedly reminded of his responsibilities over his choice of language. The broadcast has since been removed from talkSPORT's website archive.

A talkSPORT spokesman said: "We reviewed a live commentary by John Motson and decided to remove it from replay. TalkSPORT and all of its broadcasters take such matters very seriously and would never wish to offend."
